Bulldog One - The Process

IMG_0922.JPG

The PROJECT
A full 53 foot double drop moving van trailer.
This trailer has the large barn doors on the driver side,
full height double rear doors, and three large doors
on the  curb side.

Yes, that is a refridgeration unit on the front. This trailer
is air conditioned although we really don't see a need for it.

The PURPOSE
This trailer will be a showcase platform for the following:
  • Our unique storage system that provides a very flexible method of transporting wind and percussion instruments to contests and football games.
  • Our modular second level flooring system for marching band transport trailers that allows doubling of the usable space in your trailer.
  •  The best rolling percussion equipment on the field today

The  INSIDE
This is considered a "double drop" trailer although structurally there is only one drop of the deck. This configuration provides maximum volumetric efficiency. This particular trailer is also equipped with pass-thru belly-boxes full length of the trailer.

The DOORS
Now that's a set of doors!  Double wide and giving almost twelve full feet of access. Good view also of the belly boxes that open to both sides.

The HUMP
There is great benefit to having a low deck trailer - but there are also drawbacks.  Access to Memorial High School's band room parking lot requires entry through a gated area that also has a large hump in the drive.  We had to determine whether the trailer could safely enter through this gated drive and cross the hump without damage to the roadway or the belly boxes.

The DRAG
Wow - The driver placed the trailer through the middle of the drive although the hump is less on the passenger side of the drive.  The trailer made contact with drive ever so slightly - more like a soft slide.  Very sweet. Because this trailer is air-ride equipped the travel height remains constant regardless of the load.

The CLUBHOUSE
After a test run through the high school parking lot it was time to deliver the trailer to its new temporary home - the infamous Club House.  Here it will begin the transformation process from a retired moving van in to a Class A-1 custom band transporter.  Inside will be a modular system of storage cabinets and uniform racks, a second floor that will allow storage of rolling percussion equipment on the lower level, and a parking location in the rear for a small utility vehicle.
Outside will be stripped of logos and refinished with Sherwin-Williams Commercial high gloss paint.  The trailer will be finished out with vinyl graphics bearing the band's name and logo.
